Latin-American Dance Classes in Wellington

Courses are run in 2-12 week blocks, anyone can join but you may need to catch up or accelerate your learning with a private lesson if after the second week of the course. or if you feel too shy to bust out a move in a group setting grab a private lesson so you know what to expect!  <email us now> to book in a private lesson at a time to suit.

MONDAY -  Argentine Tango

Argentine Tango:


Courses mainly focus on Argentine Tango. Other Tango dance styles Milonga and Vals (aka tango waltz) are also taught, mainly in open embrace, with some close embrace. a mix of traditional with modern styles of Tango Nuevo. A suitable foundation for both social dancing and performance/stage tango dancing developed more as you advance to be a versatile dancer able to dance each style with ease.


Other useful info:

Please wear clean socks or suitable smooth soled shoes with good ankle support. highly recommend a drink bottle as well.


regarding C-19 situation: location scanner is available, plus sanitizer on site - please don't come if you are sick. also if we move up levels, we may not continue with classes and will offer a class credit to those signed up. Please also provide a vaccine pass as required by NZ Govt / MOH.



WEDNESDAY -   Latin Dance (Salsa & Tango) Term 4.
Starts 19th October 2022

7:45 – 8.45 pm Beginners & Improvers Latin dance immersion

This is an Introductory intensive course We’ll be focusing on Salsa (linear), Bachata and Merengue,  but will also look at the basics of other common Latin dance styles:  Kizomba, Tango and Zouk.

Special Workshops

From time to time we do specialized workshops in a variety of different aspects of dancing. Usual cost for these workshops is $25-$90 per person. Dates are advised as these classes are run, either by our teachers or guest / visiting instructors, usually in between courses.

Class level description

Beginners:
The main focus for this level is on: dance fundamentals including leading and following, technique, posture, musicality and embrace. introducing basic combinations of moves.


Improvers:
This level follows on from the beginners classes, teaching more fundamentals of dynamic movements and developing more sophisticated and improvised combinations, building from the basics learnt in beginners level. floorcraft skills and musicality.

Intermediate / advanced:

These levels follow on from Improvers and further expand the dynamic movements of Salsa, including spins, free spins (also covered in a separate spins workshop) and combinations of movements to create a smooth and dynamic flow to your dancing. building on each previous level to get you looking like a pro in no time!


Private lessons
Taking private lessons will accelerate your learning and combined with regular class attendance will help you to be confident on the dance floor and a great way to catch up on anything you were unclear about or missed in previous group lessons, or if you're the super shy 
 type or think you have two left feet, get a good understanding of what you'll be covering in class before coming to the group class by taking a few lessons

Class concession cards are available!


Private lessons:
for a block of four prepaid lessons its $240 + venue hire
a casual one off lesson is $80 + venue hire
cheaper rates available for regular weekly lessons 
venue hire differs depending on time and venues availability usually $30/hr
Also please note: once booked in, 96 hours (4 days) cancellation notice is required otherwise venue hire payment may be required.

Group classes:  standard rates (extra charges may apply for immersion courses)

Ten class card: $160 - ($140 for Students with ID)
Forty class card: $600 - ($550 for Students with ID)
Casual class: $15 - $25
Workshops $25-$90 per person

while safety is important to us, we are not liable for any injuries you may receive while attending our courses

Refunds and Transfers (Cancellation Policy)

If a course doesn’t get enough enrolments to go ahead, we’ll let you know and will give you a full refund or suggest a transfer to another course.

If you find you can’t attend a course you’ve enrolled for, as long as you let us know before it starts, we may be able to transfer you to another one in that year. There’s no fee for transfers.
* Also from 2021 regarding Covid level impacted courses: if over half the course has been completed we will refund 50% course fees, or give you course credit for when it is safe to do so. if under half completed, we will give you a full course credit or refund course fees minus lessons taken at casual rate.

If you do have to cancel your registration and give us a week’s notice, you’ll get a 90% refund. If you cancel during the week before the course starts, it’s 50%. We’re sorry but there are no refunds after a course has started* (unless by govt issued covid restrictions)  Refunds go back to you via bank transfer, we’ll ask you for your bank account details. 
Concession cards are only able to be transferred 
in exceptional circumstances such as serious injury.

If you have to miss a session, it’s not possible to catch up on another course. Please advise us in advance if possible. 

We reserve the right to refuse or cancel enrolments.
